The story behind the inspiration: Artist and Photographer: Rony Armas hand-etched the Aztec symbol on glass. Mr. Escovedo then held up the glass in front of him and looked through the etching, and the photo was taken. This is the result when a truly creative artist, Rony Armas, and a legendary musician, Pete Escovedo, come together.

Escovedo Way

January 14th, 2024 was a very special day. We were honored to have the street we raised our children Sheila, Juan, Peter Michael, and Zina, on 9th Ave and East 21st officially changed to “Escovedo Way.” We have had many special memories there.

Many well-renowned musicians who got their start in Oakland would spend many days and nights at our home playing in the front room and the front porch. Those were the good old days when we would have jam sessions.

The landlord raised our rent $50, so, unfortunately, we had to move. That was a lot of money back then for us trying to raise our 4 kids. But God had other plans for my family. Years later, here we are standing on the corner looking up at our street sign “Escovedo Way.”

God is good. Thank you, Oakland! You will always be my hometown.

67th Wedding Anniversary

Today I am celebrating our 67th wedding anniversary at Catalina Jazz Club. It’s been an incredible ride. Doing our best to raise 4 children, was a task in itself, being that I was making $50 a week, and you were working at an ice cream plant supporting the family financially while I was struggling to make a name for myself. I am a very blessed man to share this life with you. A musician’s life is not an easy one, but there is nothing I would change about our path. I am grateful for our life together in this world. I love you always and forever. Happy Anniversary!

Escovedo Way

I am beyond grateful for receiving the honor of having the legacy of my fathers last name “Escovedo” to be put on a street name in our old neighborhood where my wife and I and my 4 children had great memories there. We lived on Eeast 21st St. and 9th Ave. The legacy will continue to my children, my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren. Our street will be called “Escovedo Way”. This could not have happened without the support of Henry Royal, Ray Leon, council member Noel Gallo, my daughter Sheila E., my wife of 66 years Juanita Escovedo, and my children Juan Escovedo, Peter Michael Escovedo and my youngest Zina Escovedo. For the support behind the scenes whom the public may not see but has made sure that I was always taken care ofm I personally would like to thank Al Evers, Victor Pamiroyan, Joey Torres, Xavier, and Chino. And to my parents in heaven…I hope I made you proud!
Your loving son…
Pete M. Escovedo

Thank you to all my fans, Yoshis, and another artshow

What a great and very memorable weekend I have had at Yoshis. Being on stage looking into the audience thinking.. how grateful I am to have had all of the years with people that I don’t know and maybe never even met, but yet they know me through my music.

Even though I have announced that this is my retirement year of performing until the end of 2023, doesn’t mean that I will stop playing. The love to perform and play my music still runs through my veins and I have truly enjoyed my 70-plus years of traveling, being on stage, and more importantly having an amazing wife and family that I have been so blessed with.

You might just see me at an intimate club or a special event where I will be performing through the years to come because, for a musician, that itch of playing never goes away.

For those of you who graciously came to Yoshi’s, I thank you for your support, through your applause, your love, your standing ovations, your words of kindness and even for purchasing my music and artwork. I am grateful to you all.

To continue my creativity I am dedicating myself to my other love. My life on canvas. I would like to personally invite you to join me at The Sound Room in Oakland CA. I will make be making an appearance Sunday, February 19th, and Sunday, March 5th, 2023 where you will be able to purchase my “ORIGINAL” artwork. My work will remain on these walls throughout these dates. If you need a personal tour please contact The Sound Room.

Also I am extending the invitation that if you have purchased ANY merchandise over the weekend at Yoshi’s I will be more than happy to autograph each and every item that you have bought. You can always visit my new website for more details: MrEGallery.com.

Thank you again Oakland, You have made me proud!

Always and Forever,
Pops
